Methodological Approaches of I. Krypiakevych to the Classification of Historical Sources (Based on the Materials of the Scientific Seminar in the Ukrainian Secret University in Lviv)

The purpose is to investigate the contribution of I. Krypiakevych to the development of the methodology of classification of historical sources and to determine the relevance of his work in this field at the current stage, based on non-updated archival evidence. The tasks are to clarify the essence of the theoretical and methodological significance of the scientific classification scheme of historical sources of I. Krypiakevych.
The methodology is based on the principles of source studies — historicism, comprehensiveness, and integrity of the source complex using general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, and modeling, as well as historical methods — biohistoriographical, historical-genetic, historical-comparative, problem-chronological, retrospective and textological. The main results. The article reveals the scientist’s approaches to the development of classification criteria and models, taking into account the achievements of Western European genealogy in the 19th — beginning of the 20th century with the dominance of the positivist and neo-Kantian paradigm of the historical process. The basis of the classification proposed by him is primarily the ideas of E. Bernheim and the dominant at that time, division of the source base into remnants and tradition. The merit of the historian was that he improved it, specified it, adapted it to Ukrainian historical material, and tested it in a scientific seminar at the Ukrainian Secret University in Lviv.
