Ethical Oversight Policy
The journal "Economics and Law" adheres to high ethical standards in scientific research involving humans, animals, or confidential information. We recognize the priority of protecting the rights of research participants, complying with legislative requirements, and following international norms.
Research Involving Humans and Animals
Manuscripts containing the results of surveys or other studies involving humans, animals, or their biological materials must include a statement confirming that the work was approved by the relevant ethics committees associated with the institution(s) where the research was conducted. Participation of respondents must be voluntary and accompanied by signed consent, including consent for publication of the results. A mandatory requirement is to maintain confidentiality and avoid any form of discrimination or coercion. The ethical validity of the research must always be substantiated and supported by references to relevant standards, including professional codes of ethics. Among the key international recommendations on research ethics followed by the editorial board and expected from authors are: the Code of Ethics of the American Sociological Association (1997), the International Code on Market, Opinion and Social Research and Data Analytics ICC/ESOMAR (2016), and the European Commission Guidelines on Ethics and Data Protection (2021).
All participants in non-interventional studies (such as surveys, questionnaires, or social media research) must be fully informed about whether anonymity is ensured, the purpose of the study, how their data will be used, and any associated risks. Ethical approval from the relevant ethics committee must be obtained prior to conducting the study. If ethical approval is not required, authors must either provide an exemption from the ethics committee or cite local or national legislation indicating that ethical approval is not mandatory for this type of research.
Personal and Confidential Data
Research involving the collection of personal data must comply with the Law of Ukraine On Personal Data Protection and international standards, including GDPR (where applicable). Authors are required to confirm that informed consent has been obtained from all participants.
Anonymization and Informed Consent
Although the journal primarily publishes theoretical and doctrinal legal research, any empirical work involving humans, interviews, or the use of identifiable personal data must strictly adhere to ethical requirements. If a manuscript contains data that may identify individuals, authors must obtain explicit informed consent for participation in the study and separate written consent for publication of such data.
Authors bear full responsibility for maintaining participant confidentiality. All personal data must be carefully anonymized before submission. Identifying details (such as names, locations, or dates) that could reveal an individual’s identity should be removed or altered, except where they are essential for the scientific purpose of the article and explicit consent for their disclosure has been obtained.
Statement of Compliance with Ethical Standards
Manuscripts subject to these requirements must include a clear statement within the text of the article confirming:
-
that informed consent was obtained for participation in the study and for publication of data;
-
that appropriate measures were taken to ensure anonymization and confidentiality.
