The purpose of the article is to fi nd and systematize the information stored in the archives about the organization and combat activity of Polish insurgent units and the territory of Right-Bank Ukraine in 1863—1864.
The methodology based on the principles of historicism, systematicity, verification, and scientificity. Were used such methods as chronological, biographical, problem-searching, and retrospective.
The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time in Ukrainian historiography, author has carefully collected, analyzed and described the history of creation, combat activity and subsequent fate of all Polish insurgent units that operated on the territory of Right-Bank Ukraine. Th is research investigated names of all units’ commanders, their life paths and circumstances of death.
Conclusion. The goal of Polish insurgents located on the territory of Right-Bank Ukraine was to enter into the Belarusian provinces, unite with local units, attack the rear of Russian troops and advance into the Congress Poland. The uprising in Ukraine began on the night of April 26—27, 1863, and was defeated by mid-May. The organization of rebel units began long before this date. Polish aristocrats supplied future soldiers with everything necessary: horses, weapons, clothes, food, etc. The Polish insurgent units were well organized, but few in number and located far from each other. As a result, the vast majority of them were defeated; leaders and commanders were killed in battles with the enemy, or were captured and executed later. Only the detachment of Edmund Różycki was lucky to escape. Polish and Ukrainian historiography of the Polish Uprising 1863—1864 are considered primarily through the prism of his military activity. Other heroes of this period are mainly forgotten. At the same time, the archives of Ukraine contain several unexamined documents of that period, thanks to which this topic can be more widely disclosed in future publications.
