Abstract

The purpose is to reveal the circumstances under which the first legal publication about the 1932—1933 Famine appeared in the Soviet Union. Its task is to analyze the reaction of the U.S. Commission on the Ukraine Famine and the International Commission of Inquiry into the 1932—1933 Famine in Ukraine to this publication.

The methodology is based on the principles of historicism, scientificity, and systematicity.

The scientific novelty lies in proving the decisive role of the North American Ukrainian diaspora in the decision of the Soviet authorities to stop hiding from new generations of citizens the most terrible tragedy in the thousand-year history of Ukraine.
