Abstract

The Kremlin's policy concerning the religions during so-called "socialist construction" was offensive-repressive, but acquired significant features during the campaign of radicalization of Soviet power on the peninsula, which could only be carried out in the form of tatariation (mobilization of the Muslim people on the side of Soviet power). In the 1920's, the leadership of the RCP(b) hoped to bring Turkey into its influence sphere, hoping to deploy the world communist revolution in the Muslim East. For this purpose, it separated the Crimean peninsula from Soviet Ukraine, created an autonomous republic and made an attempt to turn it into a model for the peoples of the East. Remaining in essence anti-religious, the Kremlin's policy towards Islam had acquired the specific features that covering in this article. When the hopes for the "world revolution" disappeared, and relations with Turkey became cool, the real Tatarization in the Crimean ASSR stopped in the way used by J.Stalin: repressions against the leading Crimean Tatar leaders. The documentary materials of the State Archives of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which determine why the policy directed against the Muslim clergy, was different from the policy that the Soviet state introduced against representatives of all other religious confessions, was first introduced in the scientific circle.
