On the question of the formation of theoretical foundations of archaeography in the Ukrainian SSR in the post-war period

The formation of theoretical principles of archeography in the Ukrainian SSR during the first post-war decade and their specific features in the conditions of the final approval of the uniform requirements for the publication of historical documents in the USSR and the principles of their selection and preparation, are considered. The history of Ukrainian archeography occupies a special position among trends of the archeographical activities, since it is not only a separate topic of the research, but also serves as a research method, and in some definitions of archeography it is an integral part of its subject. The process of development of the theory and forming the methodology of archeography in the "All-Union" archaeological centers during the specified period and their decisive influence on archaeological activity at the republican level are analyzed. Archeography in the Ukrainian SSR in the postwar period was on the margin of scientific processes, the centers of which were Moscow and Leningrad. This meant that basic developments in the field of theory and methodology, as well as leading experts on these issues were outside the Ukrainian SSR. In addition, many topics were closed for research. In general, Ukrainian Soviet archeography was subjected to consistent Russification. First of all, it was alleged a fact of the superiority of the Russian culture over the Ukrainian. It is concluded that at that time the main directions followed by the theoretical and methodological thinking in Ukraine in the next decades were laid. This period was characterized through uncritical adoption of the all-Union rules; with the simultaneous these’s rules adoption and development of particular issues caused by the "resistance of material" and due to the experience of practical work with Ukrainian historical documents, and, finally, with the elaboration of their own theoretical and methodological principles, albeit in the form of individual remarks, rather than like systematic thorough research.
