In the program article of 1957 by the first editor-in-chief of the “Ukrainian Historical Journal” F.Shevchenko (1914–1995), highlights the main directions of the editorial policy of the newly-founded journal. In the light of the ideological dogmas and party instructions of Khrushchev liberalization, author analyzed the condition of historical science in Soviet Ukraine. In particular, author described a number of “neglected” spheres and areas, numerous miscalculations and gaps that need to be eliminated, urgently developed and worked out.
