The article presents information on Ukraine as it was reflected in English periodicals during the first year of Oliver Cromwell’s protectorate in 1654. News in London informed relatively well on main developments in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Muscovy, Ukraine, Ottoman Empire, Crimean Khanate, and Danubian principalities regarding the East European policy during the time after the Treaty of Pereiaslav (1654) and Hetman Bohdan Khmel’nyts’kyi’s submission to Muscovy. The author occasionally gives archival evidences to confirm news circulated in London and also notes some mistakes of English translators of Polish news as regards geographic names and historical figures.
