Editorial Requirements for Publications

  1. General Requirements

Articles, publications of documents, historiographical and methodological materials, source studies, reviews of new publications, reports on scientific events and activities are accepted for publication mainly in Ukrainian, as well as in English and Polish.

Electronic versions of texts should be submitted to the editorial office. Materials that do not meet the requirements listed below will not be considered. Texts will be edited and may be shortened if necessary. The author is responsible for the accuracy of facts, quotations, dates, etc.

The articles size should not exceed 1.0 author’s sheet (40,000 characters, including spaces), reviews — 0.4—0.5 author’s sheets (15—20,000 characters), biographical materials, and chronicle reports — up to 0.3 author’s sheets.

Texts submitted for consideration by the editorial board must meet the established requirements and contain the necessary elements (not highlighted as separate sections): statement of the problem in general, its connection with scientific or practical tasks; analysis of recent researches and publications in which the solution to the problem has been originated and on which the author relies; separation of previously unresolved parts of the general problem to which the article is devoted; formulation of its purpose (setting the task); presentation of the main research material with substantiation of the obtained results; conclusions and prospects for further research in the defined direction.

Articles and reviews must include metadata (in Ukrainian and English), which will be published in the journal and on the publication’s website, and stored in information and scientometric databases. (The transliteration of names and surnames is made according to the transliteration table provided in the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 55 of January 27, 2010, “On Regulation of the Transliteration of the Ukrainian Alphabet into Latin”).

  1. UDC.
  2. Author(s) information (first name and last name, academic degree, academic title, position, place of employment, e-mail, ORCID in the format: https://orcid.org/0000-0000-0000-0000).
  3. Title (in all caps, bold, as a single paragraph).
  4. The size of the abstract is 1,500—2,000 characters (including spaces), and it must contain the following required points:
  • research purpose/objectives;
  • methodology/methods/scientific approaches;
  • originality of the research;
  • main results;
  • prospects for further studies/practical significance of the achieved results.
    1. Keywords (six to eight) are placed after the abstract.
    2. References should be provided at the end of the article. If cited materials have DOI identifiers, they must be included. Cyrillic sources should be transliterated (rules for the Ukrainian language are stated in the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No.55 of January 27, 2010, “On Regulation of the Transliteration of the Ukrainian Alphabet into Latin”), as well as in their original spelling. The language of the source should be indicated in square brackets after the description. City names should be given in English and not transliterated (Kyiv, Warsaw, Paris, etc.). Information unnecessary for source identification (including information about reviewers, translators, etc.) should be removed from the transliterated description. Both versions must be formatted according to DSTU 8302:2015 “Information and Documentation. Bibliographic Reference. General Requirements and Rules for Compilation” (see examples below). The names of periodicals (journals) should be given according to their spelling under the international ISSN identifier.

  1. Text Formatting Requirements

The font is Times New Roman, size 14, line spacing is 1.5, and the margins are 2 cm. The file format should be .doc or .docx. If non-standard fonts were used, their name must be specified or the font file itself provided (default fonts location in OS Windows is C:/Windows/Fonts).

Word breaks are not allowed. Indentations must be formatted directly in the text, without using spaces or tabs.

Tables should be created automatically using the corresponding menu in the text editor and numbered sequentially. Tables must be linked to the text (“see Table No. ...”).

Illustrations should be provided as separate files in .jpeg or .tiff formats. Images must be linked to the text (“see Ill. No. ...”).

General Guidelines:

  • One space between words.
  • Distinguish between dash (—) and hyphen (-).
  • The percent sign should be separated from the number by a non-breaking space (e.g., 12%).
  • Commonly accepted abbreviations for units of measurement should be provided with a non-breaking space (e.g., 45poods, 150 UAH, 32 km, 6 mln, 45 thsd).
  • Angle quotes («...») should be used (“guillemets”), taking into account the presence of inner quotes («... “...” ...»).
  • Dates should be presented with a dash without spaces (e.g., 2023—2024).

III. Requirements for References, Notes, and Bibliographic Entries

References should be in square brackets in the order of their mention in the text (e.g., [1] ... [2] ..., or [1, p. 23] ... [2, p. 45] ...).

Various notes (comments, clarifications) should be formatted automatically, page by page, using the “References” menu in the text editor.

References to archival (unpublished) sources should also be formatted automatically, page by page. The footnote mark should be placed with a non-breaking space after the relevant word and before the punctuation mark (colon, semicolon, comma, period), not after it.

References to materials from archival funds should include:

  • the name of the archive (first, the full name is indicated, and the abbreviation is given in parentheses; hereafter, only the abbreviation or “Ibid” is used);
  • the fund No.;
  • the case No.;
  • the sheet No.

Examples of Formatting Entries in the List of References
