Ethics of publishing

Publication Ethics

The Ukrainian Historical Journal adheres to the requirements established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), which one can found at www.publicationethics.org

Ethical Principles of the Editorial Board and Publisher

When deciding on publication, the editorial board is guided by the credibility of the provided data and the scientific significance of the submitted texts.

The intellectual content of the materials is evaluated regardless of the race, gender, sexual orientation, origin, citizenship, social status, religious or political views of the author(s) (certain restrictions may apply in conditions of martial law). At the same time, texts created by pupils of general education institutions, students of higher education institutions, postgraduate students (adjuncts), and authors without a scientific degree are not accepted for consideration.

Unpublished data from submitted materials is not used for personal gain and not disclosed to third parties without the author’s written consent. The information remains confidential and is not used for personal gain.

The editorial board reserves the right to reject articles that are considered non-profile or do not meet the professional level and category A publication.

Texts with suspected plagiarism or self-plagiarism will not be published.

The editorial board responds to all complaints regarding reviewed or published materials and takes all necessary measures to resolve any conflicts that may arise.

Principles of Reviewer Ethics

The text received for review is considered a confidential document (so-called blind review), which cannot be transferred for review or discussion to third parties who do not have the authority to do so from the editorial board.

The reviewer provides an unbiased and substantiated assessment of the presented research results. Personal criticism of the author is unacceptable.

The reviewer shall not use unpublished data from the materials submitted for review for personal gain.

A reviewer who, in his opinion, does not have sufficient qualifications to evaluate a manuscript, or if he cannot be impartial (in particular in the case of a conflict of interest with the author or organisation), must inform the editorial board and request to be excluded from the review process for the referred manuscript.

In case of polar opposite assessments of the reviewed text, an additional review is appointed with the involvement of new experts.

If two or more negative assessments are received from experts, the submitted text is removed from further discussion.

Principles of Ethics for Authors of Scientific Publications

Authors are obliged to provide accurate results of their research. Deliberate submission of false or falsified data is unacceptable.

The author must ensure that the research results presented in their text are completely original. Borrowed data must be accompanied by a mandatory mention of the authorship and original source. Excessive borrowing, as well as plagiarism in any form (including unformatted quotations, paraphrasing, or appropriation of the results of other people’s research), is unacceptable.

It is necessary to acknowledge the contribution of all persons who have influenced the course and results of the research in one way or another; in particular, references to relevant works should be provided in the article.

The author should not submit for publication a manuscript that has already been sent to another publication, where it is under consideration, as well as a text that has already been published.

All those who have made a significant contribution to the research should be listed as co-authors of the article. It is unacceptable to mention persons who did not participate in the research among the co-authors. Texts with an excessive number of authors will not be accepted for consideration.

If the author discovers significant errors or inaccuracies in the article during the review stage or after its publication, they must notify the editorial office about it as soon as possible.
