SERUM STEROID hormone LEVELs IN ENDOMETRIAL CANCER PATIENTS WITH DIFFERENT MENSTRUAL FUNCTION AND INDICATORS of GENOMIC INSTABILITY
Keywords:
endometrial cancer, steroid hormones, peripheral blood serum and lymphocytes, DNA repair, chromosomal instability.Abstract
Summary. Aim: to evaluate the clinical, morphological,
and genetic characteristics of endometrial cancer (EC) patients in the light of steroid hormones concentrations in the
serum of peripheral blood. Object and methods: peripheral blood serum and peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBS
and PBL) and samples of surgical specimens of 46 patients with EC aged 37 to 73 years (average age 56.3 ±
7.3 years). As a control group were used PBS and PBL of
24 healthy women aged 37 to 57 years (average age 43.8±
9.9 years). Results: it was found that hormonal imbalance
in EC patients is associated with increased estrogen/progesterone ratio in PBS compared to healthy women. In
patients with preserved menstrual function it is associated with higher level of estradiol and deficiency of progesterone, and in patients in the menopausal period — with
a high concentration of estradiol with progesterone levels
in the normal range. It was shown that increasing of concentration of estradiol in PBS in EC patients is associated
with metabolic syndrome as a sign of increased body mass
index. In EC patients with a duration of menopause more
than 10 years the disease occurs on the background of decreased functioning of DNA repair and chromosome instability in PBL. Conclusions: EС is a heterogeneous disease in terms of estrogen/progesterone balance in the PBS
and genomic instability in PBL, which is associated with
the state of menstrual function and duration of menopause
in patients. The data can be used to correct therapeutic interventions in the treatment of EС patients.
