INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCEAbstract
On October 5–6, 2017, the Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology named after R.E. Kavetsky of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) hosted the International Scientific Conference “Stem Normal and Tumor Cells: Discovery, Diagnosis and Therapy”. The study of the problem of stem cells is traditional for the Institute. In 1977, the 1st International Symposium “The Role of Stem Cells in Leukemia and Carcinogenesis” was held here, and in 1981, the 2nd International Symposium “Stem and Immunocompetent Cells in Normal and Tumor Growth”. Now, 40 years later, with the support of the NAS of Ukraine and the Charity Foundation "Unity Against Cancer", the Institute's staff organized and held an international forum, the scientific areas of which covered a number of topical problems in the field of stem cell research and application: biology of normal and tumor stem cells; the role of stem cells in carcinogenesis, invasion and metastasis of malignant neoplasms; phenotype plasticity, epithelial-mesenchymal transitions of tumor and normal stem cells; signaling pathways, genetic and epigenetic damage in tumor stem cells; tumor stem cells as a factor of resistance to therapy; stem cell and tissue bioengineering; ethical aspects of stem cell research.
