Abstract

Summary. The progression of malignant neoplasms depends not only on the phenotypic characteristics of tumor cells, but also on the composition of their microenvironment, particularly cancer-associated fibroblasts. Aim: to investigate the content of ER+-fibroblasts in endometrioid endometrial carcinoma (EEC) and their association with clinicopathological features of the tumor. Object and methods: surgical specimens from 83 patients with EEC, stages I–II and III according to FIGO (median age 60.4 years), were analyzed. Results: poorly differentiated tumors with deep myometrial invasion and stage III disease were characterized by a higher content of ER+-fibroblasts, reduced expression of ER and PR, and increased Ki-67 levels in tumor cells. Conclusion: high ER+-fibroblast content is associated with a more aggressive course of endometrioid endometrial carcinoma, highlighting their potential role as a prognostic marker and a target for further therapeutic research.
