The article is devoted to the unification of the united state of the western and eastern Ukrainian lands, which entered into history as the Reunion Act (Act Zluky). This event was one of the most prominent in the history of the Ukrainian Revolution 1917–1921. Based on the comprehensive historiographic works and sources as well as memoirs, the author highlights both the genesis of the idea of unity and the real attempt to implement it in the conditions of the completion of the World War I and reformation the political map of Central and Eastern Europe. The study was focused on the events associated with the formation of the West Ukrainian People’s Republic, its confrontation with the Poland, and the search for an ally in this struggle. In the conditions of the end of 1918 and the beginning of 1919, only the Great Ukraine represented by the Ukrainian People’s Republic could have been that ally. Great attention is paid to the analysis of the legal grounds and conflicts that enabled the signing of the Reunion Act (Act Zluky) on January 22, 1919.
