Ukraine’s Path to NATO: Main Problems, Achievements and Prospects of Euro-Atlantic Integration

Abstract

The goal of this research is to analyze Ukraine’s progress towards NATO during the period of independence, to reveal the main problems and achievements of Euro-Atlantic integration and outline further prospects and opportunities in this direction.

In conducting the research, was used scientific methodology, in particular, based on the principles of scientificity, objectivity, comprehensiveness, multifactoriality. Methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization, retrospective and systematic approach to solving research problems were used to write the material.

The main results of the study were to determine the features of the main foreign policy directions of Ukraine: non-aligned, multi-vector, Euro-Atlantic and generalize their results. The results are also logical conclusions about the prospects of Ukraine’s membership in NATO and the need to adhere to the Euro-Atlantic path of integration as the only possible and important way to preserve Ukraine’s independence. The conclusions proposed in the research are based not only on the study of historical research, but also on the analysis of official documents, speeches, transcripts, appeals of officials, which helped to comprehensively consider the subject of research. The topic is broad and has prospects for further studies. In particular, specific steps of NATO assistance to Ukraine in various fields and a comparative analysis of specific military, political, economic and technical support in order to demonstrate the benefits for Ukraine in the event of accession to the alliance can be an important subject of more detailed research. Such research will demonstrate arguments in favor of the importance of NATO membership for skeptics of Euro-Atlantic integration. The practical significance of the research results is that the main messages, conclusions and generalizations can will use as material for popularization of the foreign policy Euro-Atlantic vector in Ukraine. These results, which are based on official verified data, will help shape NATO’s image as an important and necessary partner.
