Abstract

The article clarifies the methodological features of the interpretation of the vending trade and vending machines, and determines their place in the distribution system. The approaches to the classification of vending machines used today in the trade of goods are systematized and supplemented. Vending machines are classified based on the goods sold with their help. The key advantages and disadvantages of trading goods through vending machines, due to the modern features of their operation, are determined. The author also formed key factors for the success of the vending machine business, including: high pedestrian traffic, limited food alternatives, a present audience, accessibility for consumers and delivery, a protected environment and safe premises, the availability of electricity, a clear focus on the needs of the target audience, the absence of bureaucratic obstacles and the visibility of vending machines. The most attractive locations for such trade have been identified — office centers, educational and medical institutions, transport hubs (train stations, airports), fitness clubs, production and industrial facilities, shopping centers, and residential complexes. The structure of vending machine placement in Ukraine has been analyzed, and it has been found that the most popular locations are
manufacturing enterprises and office centers. The structure of goods sold using vending machines has also been analyzed, among which snacks, food, and beverages occupy the largest share. Examples of successful vending trade startups
in Ukraine have been shown. Key measures necessary to ensure the competitiveness of the activity and its development have been identified, and recommendations have been developed to improve the development of the vending trade in Ukraine for business entities and government bodies.
