The 100th Anniversary of the Birthday of Gryhoriy Ivanovych Denysenko

Hryhoriy Denysenko is an outstanding Ukrainian scientist in power grids and systems, and renewable energy sources, a correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1969), rector of the two main polytechnic institutes in Ukraine: Lviv Polytechnic Institute (1963–1971), and Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (1971–1987). He is a graduate of electrical engineering department at Lviv Polytechnic Institute. Denysenko’s research aims at improving technical and economic parameters of power transmissions. His leadership led to the creation of the Lviv scientific school in power transmission by alternating current and direct current, and transforming techniques. The article contains details about the origin, education, and research career of this scientist, which started in the city of Lviv, his contribution in the development of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI). When working in KPI, the scientist initiated a new research area, the renewable energy. The research laboratory created by Denysenko in 2003 was developed into the Research Institute of Renewable Energy of the NAS of Ukraine.
