Activitys of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2016 and Main Objectives of Future Work

The report provides details of significant results of basic research in many advanced areas of research. Data about the publication activity of researchers from the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine are shown. It is stressed that really important innovations notwithstanding, the overall innovation activity in the NAS of Ukraine is still inadequate, with providing data demonstrating its poor performance. The reporter made a review of expert activities in the NAS of Ukraine and their contribution in the preparation of a series of state documents, draft laws of Ukraine in particular. The reporter elaborated on improvements in the NAS activities, including ones related with the implementation of the new Law of Ukraine “Scientific and science and technology activities” and the enforcement of the new edition of the Statute of the NAS of Ukraine. The reporter emphasized the need, in the forthcoming three or four years, in performance evaluation of all the research institutions of the NAS of Ukraine. A review of international scientific cooperation in the NAS of Ukraine and NAS collaboration with the education sector was made. The report touches upon research staff training, research staffing, assistance to young researchers in the NAS of Ukraine. The most painful topic is the financial condition of the NAS of Ukrainian, especially the situation with NAS financing in the current year, which was confirmed by statistics provided by the reporter.
