Abstract

Oleksandr Serhiyovych Popovych was born on August 21, 1939, in the city of Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi, Cherkasy region. In 1962, after graduating from the Faculty of Radiophysics of Kyiv State University named after Taras Shevchenko, he received a degree in engineering. He began his professional career at the Institute of Physics, and later continued at the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1971, he defended his candidate’s dissertation on the topic: "Investigation of the stability and diffusion of plasma confined by electrically conductive walls." From 1972 to 1991, Oleksandr Popovych was engaged in scientific and organizational work in the field of science and education within the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, while continuing to work part-time at the Institute for Nuclear Research.
