Modern Hrushevskyi Studies: Achievements, Defeats, Prospects

Abstract

The purpose of the study – to analyze the diverse scientific achievements of Hrushevskyi studies researchers for 2016–2021.

The methodological basis of the work is an interdisciplinary approach with particular emphasis on the structural-functional systematic analysis of historiographical facts and the comparative-historical method, based on the principles of objectivity and historicism. The study also used methods of periodization, classification and typology.

The scientific novelty of the article is an attempt at a comprehensive analysis of the Hrushevskyi studies of the last five years.

Conclusions. The dynamic expansion of the spheres and practices of scientific research, the growth of the circle of interested researchers and the formation of cells, as well as new successful institutional projects testify to a rather good disciplinary condition of modern Hrushevkyi studies. The considerable success revealed the prospects and need for this Ukrainian studies branch. Currently the scholars discuss the creation of the inter-branch coordination commission for studying the heritage of the outstanding historian. The article has also highlighted the need to implement the Encyclopaedia of M.Hrushevskyi project or an encyclopaedic dictionary. It has been emphasized that the most serious challenge for researchers of M.Hrushevskyi’s legacy is the urgent need to rethink the very disciplinary matrix of Hrushevskyi studies. After all, the theoretical model proposed by L.Vynar in the early 1990s no longer takes into account all the diversity of modern Hrushevskyi studies and obviously needs to be modernized taking into account the considerable achievements of the last thirty years and new scientific proposals. Creating a new disciplinary model that takes into account the historiographical present will allow Hrushevskyi studies scholars to better understand the logic of their search in the broad context of fellow humanities, and harmonize the mature interdisciplinary dialogue around a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of M.Hrushevskyi in the context of his time. The article has concluded that the revealed historiographical diversity significantly actualizes the preparation of a generalized monographic work, which would trace the formation and modification of modern Hrushevskyi studies on the background of the development of the humanities in the last thirty years.
