The story of organizing special departments within the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR as a link in the chain of the political and ideological control of printed editions in Ukraine is narrated on the basis of archive records. The process of transition from the party censorship to the state one, involving a even stricter surveillance over the printed word, is shown.
