90th birthday of Gennady Mikhailovich Dobrov (1929—1989)

Gennadiy Dobrov (1929–1989) is a correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Ukraine, a professor, the founder of the scientific school on science of science in Ukraine, the initiator of the creation of Center for Scientific and Technological Potential and Science History Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Ukraine, and its first director. G. Dobrov graduated from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. It was in 1966 that he wrote the book “Science about science”, which was laid in the basis of his doctor thesis, published in many countries and gained the worldwide recognition. The scientific school of Dobrov is a team that stood out due to the high level of research, the stability of scientific reputation and traditions, the continuity of researchers’ generations due to regular professional development. G. Dobrov made a critical contribution in the formation of science of science as an independent research field, in elaborating the information-based approach to science studies, in developing computerized and mathematical methods for studies of science and technology development, in the methodology of studies of the science & technology potential, in the science & technology forecasting, in science history and other areas of science of science. The scientific legacy of Dobrov consists of nearly 600 monographs, articles in scientific journals and collections, conference reports, science popular publications, reviews. In this anniversary year, Dobrov Institute for Scientific and Technological Potential and Science History Studies of the NAS of Ukraine holds a series of events devoted to the memory of G. Dobrov.
