In view of new challenges for Ukraine arisen from covid-19 pandemic and Russian-Ukrainian war the symposium had to focus on searching ways to recover R&D from crisis, elaborating measures to prevent present-day threats and strategies to bring R&D back on effective track. Hence, the proposed subjects for discussion were related with the performance of R&D sector, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in particular, amidst the present-day challenges and threats, and opportunities face them, government support to R&D in the crisis-hit environment, rehabilitation of the human resources in the Ukrainian R&D and opportunities to align with global trends in human capital, open science and open education as the best way for effective cooperation and addressing crises in R&D and education sector of Ukraine. Invited symposium participants included Ukrainian and foreign scientists and R&D administrators, presidents of academies of sciences and other research associations, representatives of government and public organizations, UNESCO, European Commission and other international organizations engaged in the development of science, dissemination and utilization of its results. The session was held internally and online on ZOOM platform. A brief review of symposium presentations is given.
