Seminars for Editors of Scientific Editions from the European Association of Science Editors

Abstract

The Association of Ukrainian editors has been fruitfully cooperating with the European Association of Science Editors (EASE). The missions and development of URC EASE correlates with the one of EASE: refining global quality standards for editing scientific publications, raising the awareness of the value of the science editors’ effort, support to the professional development of science editors, setting up effective cooperation between national editorial communities. An interesting and useful undertaking was an eight-module seminar from EASE, held in November 2022, and in June 2023. The first four modules (November 2022) were focused on strategic developments and practical tools to attain the impact and “visibility” of a scientific edition in the information space. Subject for consideration was efficiency and quality of editorial processes, nuances of cooperation with peer reviewers, compliance with the standards, effective indexing of an edition in international databases. Modules 5 to 8, held in June 2023, were designed to expand the knowledge horizons for editors of scientific periodicals and highlight the secrets of editorial strategies, policies, decision-making schemes required for an edition to be effective. The article provides a brief description of all the above modules.
