Yury Храмов, doctor in physics and mathematics, professor, president of the Ukrainian Society of Science Historians, is an outstanding administrator of the Ukrainian science system, the founder of Kyiv school of science historians, a publisher. His research and publishing activities being associated with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since 1960, the publishing house “Naukova Dumka” could become the center of academic book publishing in Ukraine in 70—80s of the past century. Yury Храмов has been head of Science History Department in Dobrov Institute for Scientific and Technological Potential and Science History Studies of the NAS of Ukraine since 1986. Under his supervision the department became the chief coordination center of research in science and technology history in Ukraine. The article contains extensive details on key areas of Khramov’s studies, his contribution in creating historical biographies of scientists and science administrators. It is shown that Khramov helped foster the vision of science history as a part of civil history, a component of the history of culture; employing wide scopes of material from literary and archival sources, he reconstructed historical events pertaining to the creation and establishment of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and its subsequent development; he elaborated a scientific framework for reconstructing the national science history of Ukraine. Khramov’s results have a significant practical value. Facts and data pertaining to the history of physics and scientific schools, history of natural sciences and history of the NAS of Ukraine are included in academic courses on science history in higher education institutions, and in historical reviews. Yury Храмов is the author of more than 400 scientific works, including 16 collective monographs and 7 individual monographs, 5 guidebooks, і 3 popular science publications. His disciples are 6 doctors of sciences and 14 candidates of sciences. The article also contains interviews with several Khramov’s colleagues who shared their impressions from the prolonged work under his supervision.
