It is pointed out that amidst the military aggression against Ukraine, the National Academy of Legal Sciences (NALS) of Ukraine and its research institutions have not stayed away from the challenges faced by Ukraine. The research capacity of NALS of Ukraine has been focused on urgent war-related problems: regulatory support to the national security and defense; support to investigations of military criminal offences and crimes against peace, security, humanity, and international legal order; implementing a scheme for reimbursements of damage and compensations of losses incurred by Ukrainian citizens, legal entities, the Ukrainian state, and nature bodies as a result of the Russian military aggression; updating the national law and its alignment with the EU law as part of the European integration of Ukraine and gaining the status of the candidate state for the admission to EU; providing legal support to persons affected by the military aggression. Addressing these and other challenges necessitates revisions of some basic research themes performed by research institutions of the NALS of Ukraine.
