Abstract

The article highlights the problem of interaction between science and art, analyses the nature of their interdependence and responsibility, in particular in the context of the development of a global digital socio-cultural system. Despite the existence of a significant difference between science and art, both in the purpose of their existence and methods, there is still a long-standing relationship between them, formed on the basis of such a common phenomenon as the ‘creative act’, as well as a number of social effects, the analysis of which constitutes the relevance of the work. The purpose of the study is to assess the theoretical aspects of the relationship, interdependence and responsibility of science and art, to determine their role and impact on the socio-cultural system, and to substantiate prospects. The tasks include analysing the conceptual apparatus and highlighting the key aspects of the relationship between science and art, existing concepts that reveal the nature and elements of their unity and difference, historical and cultural interaction over time, as well as the cognitive, psychological, material and technical aspects that determine their existence. The research methods include the principles of historicism, a systematic approach, cause and effect, interdisciplinarity, as well as general scientific methods. The article presents the anthropological aspect of science and art, the key aspects of their similarities, unities and differences in terms of their purpose of existence, methods, processes and final product. On this basis, the factors and examples where both spheres condition each other’s existence are highlighted. In particular, science influences art through new knowledge about the functioning of the human brain, the nature of consciousness, mechanisms of observation, perception, emotions, etc., that help artists develop psycho-emotional impact on people, as well as through materials, techniques and technologies that become the means of creativity for artists. Art influences science through the phenomenon of creativity, methods of its development, and through artistic images that inspire scientists to make scientific discoveries. It is concluded that the connection between science and art, under the influence of scientific and technological progress and global digital transformation, has significantly strengthened; scientific approaches and technologies increasingly dominate the production of visual artistic content, and artistic ones have increased their influence in creating new types of digital reality, including virtual reality. Science and art are expanding their joint potential, forming a new type of socio-cultural influence on society through the means of the post-industrial digital age.
