Introduction. Transdisciplinary integration of medicine, informatics, engineering and social-behavioral sciences is increasingly viewed as essential for scalable, patient-centered digital health solutions. This study builds on a transdisciplinary framework to explore how converging disciplinary knowledge can advance remote rehabilitation services.
Methods. A simulation study was conducted in the Hybrid Cloud Environment for Telerehabilitation HCET. Sixty virtual post-stroke patients were randomly assigned to a control group (standard telerehabilitation) or an experimental group (HCET-driven, AI-adapted program). Key end points included change on the Functional Independence Measure (FIM), session adherence, number of completed sessions (max = 20), and self-reported pain reduction.
Results. The HCET-adapted program produced a 57% greater mean FIM gain (17.4 ± 4.7 vs 11.1 ± 4.5 points), a 13% higher adherence rate, a 26% increase in completed sessions, and a two-fold reduction in pain scores compared with controls.
Discussion and conclusions. Findings suggest that transdisciplinary-oriented digital platforms can deliver clinically and economically meaningful benefits, particularly for patients with limited access to in-person rehabilitation. Although based on simulated data, the results validate the proposed methodological framework and justify prospective real-world trials to confirm long-term effectiveness.
