The purpose of the article is to attempt to comprehend the phenomenology of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, to analyze its historical background, international, ideological, political, economic, ethno-national, socio-cultural confessional, mental contexts.
The methodological basis of the material is a combination of relevant interdisciplinary approaches and research procedures, theoretical developments of leading experts in the history of wars, conflictology, political science, international law, social psychology, military anthropology, oral history and the history of everyday life, as well as modern terminological apparatus.
The novelty and conclusions. A retrospective of Ukrainian-Russian relations was carried out through the prism of the current war, in the interdisciplinary field of understanding of which are its historical prerequisites, causes, possible consequences, international legal, ideological, political, diplomatic, military, economic, social, ethnic, confessional, moral and psychological and other aspects. Active study of the historical components of this problem makes it possible not only to conceptualize and theorize it, but also to arrive at important generalizations and practical recommendations.
