The paper considers the concept of "economic security" and its implementation under martial law that is a type of crisis of great impact, which in addition to economic threats also creates physical ones. The main approaches to understanding economic security and its main characteristics in market setting are analyzed and systematized. The systematization covers both time periods and approaches according to activities. A wide list of external and internal influence factors, supplemented by a corresponding list of influence factors of crisis periods, is determined. The definition of the concept of "economic security" under martial law as a type of crisis is formulated. Main economic security tools, which take into account effective activity and preventive security, are forecasting and development of probable scenarios for the unfolding of major crises with the development of likely tools to counteract them. The limitation for the effective use of this tool is the need for a large enterprise with a powerful analytical department, which is able to study scenarios of events of various probability.
The study of economic security is expanded by analyzing the latter’s interaction with economic potential. It is established that economic security is a more passive and tactical tool, while economic potential is an active strategic factor. It is determined that both tools are inextricably linked and create a synergistic effect, and the ineffectiveness of one of them creates situations of danger for the further activity of the enterprise. Such danger is due to the integrity of economic security and economic potential as different sides of a single phenomenon and an internal factor of the enterprise, which provides opportunities for its activity, development and effective counteraction to economic and physical threats.
