PAYING HOMAGE TO A NOTED ECONOMIC SCIENTIST
Abstract
On March 12, 2023, corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine Volodymyr Savchuk passed away at the age of 86.
Famous economic scientist, honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine, doctor of economics, professor, corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine Volodymyr Savchuk was born on January 14, 1938. In 1960, he graduated from T.G. Shevchenko Kyiv State University and since then worked at the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman as the head of the political economy department, and later as vice-rector for scientific work (1986-2013). Volodymyr Savchuk studied the problems of global economic relations, in particular the international division of labor, movement of capital and goods, conditions of trade and non-equivalent exchange, energy and food security; issues of economic theory, primarily the place and interrelationship of its components, innovation and investment theories, market transformations, institutional shifts, formation and development of the middle class, etc. Among his scientific achievements was development of an integrated concept of crisis in the system of global economic relations between industrially developed states and developing countries. Within its limits, he revealed the political and economic nature and examined the main forms of manifestation.
Volodymyr Savchuk’s scientific output consists of more than 130 published works. Mr. Savchuk was renowned in our country as an expert in the field of economic theory and global economic relations, the founder of his own scientific school. He served as a supervisor for 15 doctors and a large number of PhDs in economics.
An outstanding Ukrainian scientist, a well-known representative of domestic economic science, a talented organizer and mentor, a person of high professionalism and diligence has passed away.
