SCIENTIFIC LEGACY OF MYKHAILO TUGAN-BARANOVSKY: PROMISING IDEAS FOR INCREASING THE RESILIENCE AND RECOVERY OF UKRAINE’S ECONOMY

Abstract

The themes of the academic readings "Scientific legacy of Mykhailo Tugan-Baranovsky for the recovery of Ukraine" that was held on January 18, 2024 in Kyiv (using the Zoom platform) are revealed and the main reports are presented. The readings were organized by the All-Ukrainian non-governmental organization "Ukrainian Association of International Economists" and the Department of Economic History of the State Institution "Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine". The purpose of the event was to highlight the legacy of M. Tugan-Baranovsky as an economic scientist, a builder of Ukrainian statehood, a public figure and organizer of science in the context of the modern tasks of rebuilding the economy and restoring the socio-humanities space of Ukraine. The following thematic areas were proposed for reports and speeches: M. Tugan-Baranovsky’s social ideal and the shaping of Ukrainian perspective; the theory of cooperation and its potential for Ukraine’s recovery; M. Tugan-Baranovsky on the role of science in social development in the context of the modern concept of open science; M. Tugan-Baranovsky’s state-building activity and current problems of public administration; prognostic ideas of M. Tugan-Baranovsky in the formation of the macro-model of the security of socio-economic development in Ukraine.

The participants' attention was also drawn to the issues of studying and popularizing theoretical advances of Ukrainian intellectual heritage as a component and factor in the development of world economic science; the heuristic potential of M. Tugan-Baranovsky's methodology; practical aspects of implementing the ideas of cooperation in the context of the tasks of institutional transformation of Ukraine’s economic system and reconstruction of the national economy; ways and mechanisms of strengthening economic, social, and fiscal security; prognostic ideas of M. Tugan-Baranovsky regarding the rise in uncertainty and instability in the development of socio-economic systems; problems of war economy and finance, etc. The participants of the event determined the directions of further work on the study, popularization and practical application of the ideas of the outstanding Ukrainian economic scientist Mykhailo Tugan-Baranovsky.
