Abstract

On April 5, 2023, an outstanding Ukrainian economist, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Oleksandr Alymov passed away in his 100th year.

Outstanding Ukrainian economist, veteran of the Second World War, honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine, doctor of economics, professor, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Oleksandr Alymov was born on September 30, 1923 in Donetsk in the family of a miner. After completing in 1957 postgraduate doctoral studies at the Moscow Mining Institute, he defended the PhD thesis. In April 1966, O. Alymov was awarded the doctor of economics scientific degree, and in September of the same year – the academic title of professor. In 1965, he became the founding director of the Institute for Economic and Industrial Research being part of the Donetsk Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, where he created a scientific school that trained a new generation of economists. Under his leadership, the Donetsk branch of the Institute of Economics within a short time grew into a center of economic thought in Donbas, on the basis of which the Institute of Industrial Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR was established in 1967.

He contributed to more than 580 scientific works, including 12 individual and 45 collective monographs, on theory and practice of the development and placement of productive forces, assessment and forecasting of rates and proportions of the development and placement of productive forces in the territory of the country in relation to environmental protection, creation of automated control systems, self-sustaining business model, scientific management of work and governance. Mr. Alymov successfully combined scientific and organizational work with the training of highly qualified scientific personnel. O. Alymov’s scientific school includes 30 PhDs in economics and 13 doctors of economics trained under his supervision.

An outstanding Ukrainian scientist, one of the prominent representatives of domestic economic science, talented organizer and mentor, a person of exceptional decency and honor, professionalism and diligence passed away.
