Provisions on Article Review
Submitted manuscripts undergo a blind (sometimes double-blind) review procedure. The purpose of the review is to assist the Editorial Board in making editorial decisions, as well as to help the author improve the manuscript.
Reviewers make a critical and impartial assessment of the author’s manuscripts submitted for review, following the requirements of the Committee on Publication Ethics, which has developed Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers. The reviewers must objectively determine the advantages and disadvantages of the article and its scientific level, treat the new scientific knowledge presented in it carefully, and endeavor not to harm the author’s reputation and career.
The selection and appointment of the reviewer(s) is carried out by the Editorial Board or the Editor-in-Chief, the editor of the section. Reviewers should be experts in the subject area of the manuscript. If possible, they should not be affiliated with the same institution as the authors and should not have recent joint publications with any of the authors.
Each paper is accompanied by a recommendation of a member of the NAS of Ukraine (who is not its (co-)author), which highlights the relevance, novelty, expediency of publication, the relevance of the results to the goal, the correctness of the conclusions.
The reviewer of the manuscript should not know the content of the recommendation of a member of the NAS of Ukraine submitted with the article. If the reviewer's recommendation contains significant comments, the Editorial Board may appoint additional reviewers. During the review process, the Editorial Board may require the authors to provide additional information (in particular, source data) if such information is necessary to assess the scientific significance of the manuscript. These materials are kept confidential and not used for personal gain.
The Editorial Board should ensure proper quality control of reviews and ensure that reviews are objective and meet the standards of academic integrity. If there are any doubts about the objectivity or quality of the review, the Editorial Board engages additional reviewers.
Members of the Editorial Board may submit their own articles to the Journal. In cases where the author is affiliated with the Journal, he/she should be relieved of all editorial tasks for writing this article, and another member of the Editorial Board will be responsible for overseeing the review process.
