Using the relations of the three-dimensional linearized stability theory of deformable bodies, the plane static problem of compression of a semi-bounded body (base) with a thin coating layer along a rectilinear interface is studied. Within the framework of the piecewise homogeneous medium model, the cases when the conditions of rigid connection and frictionless sliding conditions are fulfilled at the interface are considered. For t he case when the roots of the corresponding characteristic equations are equal for both materials, the critical values of the load parameters corresponding to the loss of surface stability of the pie cewise homogeneous half-plane are determined and their dependence on the mechanical characteristics of the materials is analyzed.
