Participation in the work of editorial boards of scientific journals is a way to increase the rating of a periodical

The article considers issues related to the involvement of Ukrainian scientists in the activities of editorial boards of foreign scientific periodicals, as well as the participation of foreign scientists in the work of editorial boards of Ukrainian scientific journals. It is obvious that such international cooperation should have a positive effect on expanding the circle of authors and readers of a publication, the visibility of a journal in the world information space and its ratings. However, the analysis showed a certain imbalance: there’re more foreign scientists in the editorial boards of journals of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine than Ukrainian scientists in the editorial boards of foreign journals. In addition, the low share of articles by foreign authors in Ukrainian periodicals may indicate a lack of active participation of foreign scholars in the work of academic journals, i.e. the likelihood of their formal membership in editorial boards. Thus, in some cases, the involvement of foreign experts is not the result of a conscious editorial policy aimed at increasing the rating and scientific impact of the journal, but rather an attempt to meet the requirements of certification bodies.
