On October 8, the names of the 2019 Nobel Prize winners were announced. Half of the award went to Canadian-American scientist James Peebles “for theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology,” the other half was shared by Swiss astrophysicist Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz “for the discovery of exoplanet orbiting a solar-type star.” The Nobel Committee at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences stated that “the discoveries of these scientists are revolutionary for astronomy.” The article is devoted to the second, "observational" part of the prize — the discovery of the exoplanet 51 Pegasi b.
