Abstract

The report highlights a wide range of issues related to the scientific understanding of events before and at the beginning of World War II and their impact on Ukraine. This period naturally attracts the attention of scientists, and of particular importance in this context is the study of the factors that have caused the most massive armed conflict in world history, the tragic consequence of which were the unprecedented human and material losses. In recent decades, the institutions of NAS of Ukraine have done a great deal of work to critically rethink the Soviet historiographic heritage and to form a fully fledged source base for World War II research, which has made it possible to outline more clearly its character and reveal the powerful state-building potential of the Ukrainian people.
