Academician D.M. Grodzinsky — outstanding radiobiologist, teacher, statesman

Abstract

Academician Dmitry Grodzinsky (1929–2016) was a prominent Ukrainian scientist in the sphere of radiobiology, biophysics, plant physiology, founder of the world known scientific school on plant radiobiology. For the first time, he proved the existence of mechanism of DNA reparation in the higher plants, created the study on the radioadaptation of living organisms, justified the role of cell position information in the teratogenic effects expression. He was among the first scientists who attracted the attention of radiobiologists to the influence of the small doses of ionizing radiation on the organism. He is the author of the generally recognized reliability theory of living organisms.
