Abstract

The report considers the urgent question about the necessity of preparing the "Ukrainian Literary Encyclopedia". During the years of Ukraine’s independence, huge factual material has been accumulated which requires proper generalization in the form of an encyclopaedic edition and should reflect the significant achievements of academic literary criticism in scientific knowledge and comprehension of the complex centuries-old history of native writing, as well as give a comprehensive picture of the notable figures of our poets, writers, playwrights, about the significant works of Ukrainian literature.
