The report comprehensively addresses the actual problems of the nuclear fuel cycle and the safety of nuclear power units of Ukrainian NPPs, in particular the issue of diversification of nuclear fuel for water-water energy reactors (VVER-1000) and expansion of exploitation of modernized nuclear fuel produced by Westinghouse. Ensuring energy independence of Ukraine requires intensification of work on reactor physics, scientific and technical support for the use of alternative types of nuclear fuel, prolongation of reactor blocks functioning, development and implementation of new cycles of reactors’ operation, and measures aimed at the creation of own industrial production of nuclear fuel and long-term storage facilities of high-level waste.
