Abstract

The report is dedicated to one of the fundamental archeological problems – the appearance of the modern anatomical human in Europe in general and in Eastern Europe in particular. The staff of Institute of Archeology of NAS of Ukraine has made a notable contribution into the accumulation of data and its complex interpretation. In particular, the coexistence of Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens on the territory of Crimea has been proven, and a concept of transitional period as a specific period in the history of humanity, characterized by coexistence of anthropologically dissimilar human species, has been developed.
