Today there is a lack of accurate and trustworthy information about carbon reservoirs and fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems of Ukraine. In this report we substantiate the necessity of performing real evaluation of all these reservoirs and fluxes; and developing national model of carbon-dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems implementing IPCC standards. It also should be comparable with other popular models such as: CBМ-CFS3, BIOMASAR, РОБУЛ, ROMUL, EFIMOD. We suggested it to be based on the “edaphic web” approach developed by P. Pogrebnyak. Differential evaluation of soil organic matter and especially its labile fractions will improve the accuracy of the model.
