Abstract

he article presents the overview of evolution of concept of small steel plants in the world. The main types of such enterprises, their technological schemes and applied equipment are considered. Also, the advantages of mini-plants in comparison with large steelmaking enterprises of total manufacturing cycle are analyzed. The expediency of concept of small steel plants in the modernization process of steelmaking in Ukraine and for revival of domestic machine-building is estimated. The ways for solving the problems are proposed.
