Strategic directions of ensuring environmental and natural-technogenic safety of Ukraine

The study reveals prerequisites (natural, technogenic and man-made) for the emergence and spread of natural-technogenic and environmental threats on the regional dimension. The character of Ukraine’s population environment is analyzed by the number of emergencies of different origin, by the number of dead, injured and the extent of material damage for 2000–2014. Strategic directions of ensuring environmental and natural-technogenic safety of Ukraine’s regions are identified and developed, including the development of legal framework and safety institutionalization, the improvement of the monitoring and forecasting systems, closer attention to safety at the regional level, the overcoming of the problems of waste management, the improvement of financial mechanisms to guarantee safety and so on.
