Abstract

The article highlights in historical context the role of V.I. Vernadsky as a reformer of mineralogy, who was the first in world science to show the importance of the natural history of minerals and the study of chemical processes that cause the genesis, growth, and changes of minerals. Reshaped by Vernadsky, mineralogy has developed vigorously in Ukraine. The structure, achievements, historically significant stones and further prospects of mineralogy in Ukraine are briefly considered. The advisability of the priority development of applied works aimed at the formation of new mining ore industries is substantiated.
