The first National atlas of Ukraine

Abstract

The first in the history of our state National atlas of Ukraine has been published (5 thousand copies) that is the most significant achievement of Ukrainian geographic science and academic cartography school. It’s a one volume fundamental work which structure consists of six topic blocks: General characteristics. History. Population and human development. Environmental conditions and natural resources. Economics. Ecological state of environment. 875 maps are presented. Atlas has two formats – a hard copy in paper (with one extra volume with Russian and English texts) and electronic format. Atlas concept, main theoretical provisions of its creation, methodological and procedural fundamentals were developed in the Institute of geography of Ukrainian NAS. High level of knowledge generalization about nature and society makes National atlas of Ukraine an important source of information about nature potential, society and economy of our state.
