Abstract

The article provides an overview of the work on the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, which was carried out at the L.V. Pisarzhevskii Institute of Physical Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine. The authors present their view on the effectiveness and efficiency of the measures taken then in the context of the events that have occurred in the world over the past 40 years, in particular the experience of liquidation of the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi NPP. It is emphasized that the key to the successful execution of the work on the liquidation of the consequences of man-made disasters is the constant support for the development of scientific schools, which ensures the availability of highly qualified specialists with a broad worldview and thorough fundamental knowledge.
