Abstract

The report examines stove tiles of the second half of the 17th — early 18th centuries from the territory of Baturyn as one of the elements of the elite culture of the Hetmanate during its heyday. On the example of the brightest archaeological finds from the estates and dwellings of the hetmans, cossack officers and other representatives of the social elite, it is demonstrated that the tile-stove as a dominant feature of the interior not only performed a utilitarian function of heating the building, but also demonstrated the personal tastes and fashion preferences of the owners, emphasized their family and patronage ties, as well as political orientations. Stove tiles as a category of archaeological finds are an important source for understanding social relations of the early modern period, an indicator of the localization of wealthy city residents’ dwellings during archaeological excavations, and also point to the development of crafts and the economy in the studied period.
