The Kyivan Rus heritage at the political and scientific crossroads of centuries-long controversy

Abstract

History produces various meanings, thoughts, interpretations, visions, concepts and theories. In a certain sense, it combines the diverse collective experience of humanity. In view of this, it is appropriate to consider history on the border of politics and culture, memory and values, society and the needs of national development. Therefore, the author turns to a key era in the history of Ukraine, to the question of the Ancient Rus / Kievan Rus / Old Kievan / Old Russian heritage, which acquired a special resonance in the 19th century and later times, up to the present day. Interpreting the Ukrainian past and present through this lens with its projection onto the present can help overcome the modern challenges that our state is currently facing.
